December 1st each year is declared as World Aids Day. The union commemorated the 2021 World Aids Day jointly with the National Education Conference in Minna, Niger State.  The theme of the 2021 WAD is “End Inequalities. End AIDS. End Pandemics”.  Sensitization activity was carried out as well as distribution of HIV self-test kits to participants.

The event was part of the series of activities under the NLC/ILO Project on HIV Self-Testing at Workplace which the union is a beneficiary.   Under the project, the union has successfully carried out workplace sensitization and distributions of HIV self-test kits to as many as 750 members of the union and family members.  Our target was to reach 1000 members and their families.  The members of the project team are: Opara Joachim, Head, Education/Research (Focal Person), Medinat Balogun (Lagos), Josephine Fashanu (Kaduna), Lucky Shuka (Kano) and Ahiaba Ufedo (Kaduna).

During the panel discussion on the theme for the World Aids Day, the Ag, Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Joachim Opara during his lecture on Basic knowledge about HIV/Aids and HIV Testing enumerated the many advantages of the HIV Self-Test Kits. He called on participants to take advantage of the opportunity to know their HIV status.
