The President of NUTGTWN, Comrade John Adaji has commended women group for creating awareness among women on the danger of gender base violence (GBV) and harassment in the workplace.

Comrade John Adaji noted that gender violence is a serious violation of human rights as well as an attack on dignity, physical and psychological integrity of human beings, particularly women.

The National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria organized a one day sensitization which was held at the Lagos sub-secretariat on Monday, 21st September 2020 and this programme was attended by women from the factories and the informal sector.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among women on the menace of GBVH and need to step up advocacy to curb it in the workplace.

Earlier, Comrade Funmilayo Issa who is the women committee chairperson stated that women have a right to be protected both within and outside the workplace irrespective of how they are dressed. She also said women and victims of sexual harassment have to speak out against abuse and rise up to collectively fight this menace. She charges the women representatives with the responsibility of looking out for cases of abuse at workplace and report such to the union. The programme was part of the union’s collaboration with the solidarity centre on GBVH at work place.
