The Northern Zonal Workshop which took place at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Secretariat, Kano State on 24th September, 2022 comprises of the Officers of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN).

The programme looks at the theme on Current Socio-Economic Realities and Challenges for Workers and Industry.

During the remarks by the President of the Union, Comrade John Adaji, he said, the theme of the workshop speak a lot of issues and we need to look for balance ground as nobody’s salary lasted up to a week again or even enough. He said exchange rate and inflation has taken us back to the era where salary is collected and finishes in a day. He went further saying we face a global inflation and the distribution chains have been destructed due to Russia and Ukraine crises. We also have own local problem and the duty of the government is to protect the lives and welfare of people, and visually Nigeria has become a dumping ground where we import things because we are not producing. He stated that with the crises going on between Russia and Ukraine this supposed to be an avenue for Nigeria to bounce up and use the knowledge God has given them so he called on the government to play their role in helping the industries counter smuggling, adulteration and dumping and also revive the Textile Industries in Nigeria.
