In a collaborative effort to address the pressing issues of climate change and promote gender equality, the union, in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and IndustriALL Global Union, organized a two-day Capacity Building Conference on Climate Change and Just Transition for affiliates of IndustriALL Global Union in Nigeria. The event, held from Wednesday, May 29th to Thursday, May 30th, 2024, at Dennis Hotel, Abuja, focused primarily on empowering the women of the union.
The conference, themed “Strengthening Trade Unions’ Capacity to Influence and Demand for Gender-Responsive Just Transition,” aimed to elevate awareness among participants about the critical concepts of climate change and just transition. It also sought to enhance the capacity of trade unions to advocate effectively for a just transition that is inclusive and responsive to gender dynamics.
Participants engaged in a series of discussions and workshops designed to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to influence policy and demand for a transition that not only addresses environmental concerns but also upholds the rights and needs of women.
