Bello UNT

September 8, 2014

With heavy heart the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) commiserates with the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of UNT Plc. Ikorodu on the death of Mr. Michael Adebayo Bello who until his death was the Assistant General Manager (Administration) of United Nigerian Textiles (UNT) Plc. Ikorodu, Lagos State.  Mr. M.A. Bello (as he was popularly called) reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday 6th September, 2014 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after a brief illness.

Mr. M.A. Bello will always be remembered for his commendable contribution to the growth and development of UNT Plc. Ikorodu in particular and the Nigerian textile manufacturing industry in general since 1975 joined the services of the company.

We bear witness that late Mr. M.A. Bello was a very resourceful management staff of UNT Plc., a key member of the Joint Management Committee and Joint Governing Council of the Nigeria Textile Manufacturers Association as well as a very strong and active member of the National Joint Industrial Negotiating Council (NJINC) made up of representatives of the Nigeria Textile Garment and Tailoring Employers Association (NTGTEA) and the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN).  During his 4-decade long service, Mr. Bello was a signatory to sixteen (16) Joint National Collective Agreements between the Union and the Textile employers Association between 1999 and 2013. The agreements covered critical labour issues of basic salary, housing allowance, transport allowance, food subsidy and other terms and conditions of work in the Nigerian textile industry. These agreements have helped to alleviate poverty and entrenched decent work in the industry. We will forever remember him for his hardwork, commitment and dedication to duty.

On behalf of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union and the generality of our members, we sympathize with the family of the deceased in particular, the management and staff of UNT Plc and the Nigeria Textile Garment and Tailoring Employers Association (NTGTEA) on this irreparable loss.

May the Almighty God grant the departed soul eternal rest in perfect peace and give us the fortitude to bear the great loss
